What’s in the Salt, Pepper and Chili Packs for 1st Generation MINIs (2001-2006)?

You’ve heard the names but you don’t know what they mean, here we are to explain to you what you’re going to get from the salt pack, pepper pack and chili pack.

Since we specialise in used MINIs in Blackpool, we’re going to cover the first and second generation MINIs in separate Blog posts. This is for the first generation MINIs sometimes called the R50, R52 and R53 models.

Salt Pack

The Salt Pack in the most basic options package and cost just £250 from new and was only available on the MINI One.

Specification is:

  • Rev Counter (yes, the standard MINI One doesn’t come with a rev counter!)

  • Height-adjustable passenger seat

  • Brilliant silver interior trim (optional)

  • Velour floor mats

  • Interior light package

  • Storage nets in back of the front seats

  • Front foglights
    After the facelift in 2004 the Salt Pack also included:

  • On board computer

    Pepper Pack

    The Pepper pack is an option for MINI Coopers and became available as an option for MINI One after 2004. It cost £300.

Specification is everything from the Salt Pack plus:

  • Chrome inserts in front and rear bumpers
  • 8-spoke 15″ alloy wheels
  • Leather steering wheel and gearknob (after 2004)
  • Chili Pack
  • The Chili Pack is the big daddy of the options packs and cost a whopping £1000 on the MINI Cooper and £1350 on the Cooper S. But the specification that came with it made it all worth it, not to mention that Chili Pack Cooper and Cooper S cars now fetch a premium on the used market.

MINI Cooper

Specification is everything from the Pepper pack plus:

  • Leather steering wheel and gear knob
  • Rear roof spoiler (in roof colour)
  • 5 Star 16″ alloy wheels (in place of 15″ wheels of course)
  • Sports seats for driver and front passenger
  • Sports suspension PLUS
  • Cloth/Leather KALEIDO upholstery
  • MINI Cooper S

Specification is everything from the MINI Cooper Chili Pack plus:

  • Alloy Patina interior trim
  • Manual air-conditioning with microfilter
  • S-Spoke 17″ Alloy wheels (in place of 16″ alloys)
  • Cloth/Leather SATELLITE upholstery (in place of KALEIDO)
  • Xenon lights with headlight washer system
